The community was founded in 1786 by Peter Pfaff, a blacksmith originally from Germany who came to North Carolina from York, Pennsylvania. Pfaff and his descendants took great pride in their community, something that holds true today as residents continue to celebrate living in Pfafftown, with community festivals and strong support of the local schools.

Children in Pfafftown will attend Vienna Elementary, Meadowlark Middle and Reagan High School. These schools are a part of the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County school district.
